A facade is the face of a building. It dictates how the exterior of the building blends in with the surroundings. It brings texture, sustainability, and even functionality.
Different materials and colors of the facade impact the overall curb appeal. It’s important to choose carefully so that your facade can reflect your personal taste.
As the year 2024 is about to end, we ought to start thinking about what’s next. What facade trends await in the new year?
1. Smart Facade
We welcomed smart technology all across our interiors, in the kitchen, bathroom, and living room.
So, why not have a smart exterior feature or two?
Smart facades are able to change properties based on their immediate surroundings.
For instance, they could be thermochromatic, which allows them to change color when temperature changes.
The building could then adapt to the natural surroundings and needless energy consumption could be minimized.
2. Modular Facade Systems
The masses are more and more interested in modular construction and for a very good reason!
Time is priceless to us, we need time-saving solutions across every aspect of life. House construction is no different.
A modular facade system entails prefabricated modules which can be easily assembled on-site. This saves precious time, reduces waste, and spares you the construction mess.
3. Energy-Generating Facades
In the modern day, we’re not only concerned with lowering energy use. Instead, we’re actively looking for ways to produce energy!
Your facade could let you do this.
Photovoltaic glass or solar panels could be integrated into the facade, which could make your home entirely self-sustained.
4. Retrofitting
In 2025, we won’t only be creating new things. We’re also about preserving and recycling the old!
Historical buildings with intricate facade features are widely considered architectural and national treasures.
Their purpose may change – some of them become city halls and others hotels.
They may need to be adapted to our modern needs, though their historical features will actively be preserved.
5. Plenty of Texture
Modern buildings aren’t all about glass and a flat surface!
Progressively bolder designs arise and will continue to in 2025. The above building, for instance, is deeply inspired by the aspen tree.
The facade design faithfully mimics the dynamic texture of its bark.
6. Passive Solar Design
The passive solar design is meant to harness solar energy in order to lessen the dependence on mechanical systems.
Simply put, the facade is meant to strategically use sunlight in order to promote sustainable living – without sacrificing modern comfort.
7. Enduring Pastels
When it comes to trend predictions in regard to color, 2025 takes us back to the neutrals and pastels.
Bold jewel tones will be present too, mainly to be used as statement colors.
8. Dynamic Lighting
Much like this year, the 2025 aesthetic is all about the mood and the ambiance.
With that in mind, programmable LED systems will be integrated into the facade to help create the desired ambiance.
9. Biophilic Facade
You’ve likely heard enough about the biophilic design. It’s everywhere and we love it!
Its presence will endure in 2025, hopefully, paired with even bolder, more creative solutions.
We’re still very much about connecting with nature and drawing inspiration from it.
10. Striking Design
Much like in the current year, in 2025 we’ll continue to place enormous value on boldness and creativity.
Polarizing colors, high contrasts, and clever solutions will be the defining features of 2025 facades.
11. Glass Bricks
Glass bricks made a recent comeback. For the longest time, they were that retro trend we didn’t pay much attention to.
Luckily, they finally got the recognition they deserve. Glass bricks are an aesthetically pleasing feature that adds dynamic and interest to the facade, but it’s also welcome indoors.
They allow natural light, but at the same time provide ample privacy and thermal insulation.
