Shine Bright: Top 8 Cleaning Tips for Your Home

Maintaining a clean home is paramount for so many different reasons.

Both our physical and mental health, satisfaction, and productivity can be increased when we regularly clean our homes.

Even Jordan Peterson said that we should start working on ourselves by first cleaning our room.

Let’s go through 8 cleaning tips that can make you and your home glow!

1. Create a Routine

In order to stay consistent and to make the task easier, it’s important to establish a stable routine. Start at the same spot and finish at the same spot every time you clean.

Personally, I pop in my earbuds, start with decluttering and stripping the linens, and then clean room by room starting from the bedroom.

I always leave the bathroom for last because I usually go in and out to get clean water or different cleaning agents.

Because of the routine and the familiarity, the weekly cleaning has become somewhat of a therapeutic ritual for me.

2. Declutter Before Cleaning

Decluttering first before you start vacuuming and polishing can save you so much time and energy.

If the clutter is left to lie around, you’ll have to stop every few minutes to get it out of the way and then continue. It even sounds too frustrating!

3. Use Microfiber Cloths

If you haven’t spent much time cleaning the house yourself, it may seem like just any cloth will do. But the fabric can make all the difference.

Unlike cotton, microfiber doesn’t produce any lint so it doesn’t leave any fibers on the surface. It’s ideal for cleaning pretty much anything – wood, glass, or metal.

It absorbs liquid like no other fabric, it’s gentle on the surface which can minimize the odds of scratching and it’s even antimicrobial!

4. The Nitty Gritty

During your weekly cleaning, you’ll mostly focus on tidying and cleaning the larger spaces with more traffic, but every now and again you’ll want to go into detail.

Polish the doors, handles, and light switches. This will make your home even shinier and fresher.

5. The Inside Is Crucial

I didn’t really have the insight into how quickly food goes bad until I got my own kitchen. One day everything looks great, and the next there’s mould in my fridge!

It’s paramount to clean out spoiled food as soon as possible and to generally keep your fridge and oven clean.

Both come in close touch with the food you eat, so it’s important to clean the inside well. If you wish to avoid toxic chemicals, use baking soda and vinegar.

Also, use baking soda to clean your washers and prevent bad odors caused by moisture.

6. Maintain Order

The more you maintain order and keep your space tidy, the easier it will be to clean.

You’ll have much less decluttering to do, and it can allow you to finish your weekly cleaning in a fraction of the time.

You may even reduce it down to just vacuuming and cleaning the floors.

7. Use Multi-Purpose Cleaners

Try to use multi-purpose cleaners whenever you can.

They can help you save a lot of money you’d otherwise spend on various cleaners for glass, wood, floors, etc.

Using multi-purpose ones can also prevent unnecessary clutter in your cabinets.

8. Clean Your Mattress

Though the mattress is always protected by a bedsheet, over time it can also absorb sweat, odors, and even hair. After all, the sheet is just a thin fabric.

Vacuum and clean the mattress every now and again. To make sure it smells fresh, sprinkle some baking soda all over, let it sit for a while, and then vacuum and clean again.

This can make a real difference in the quality of your sleep.
