Treat your home the way you treat your best friend ~ Rodika Tchi
This practice uses interior design to achieve balance in your home and it is believed that it positively affects your relationships, health, and well-being!
It’s no wonder it has a long history in China!
According to its principles, Feng Shui suggests that the bedroom is the most important room in your house and incorporating these ideas will help with the flow of the room, regardless of style!
Let’s look into some of the Feng Shui principles that will turn your bedroom into a peaceful sanctuary!
1. Mind the Bed Position
The best position for the bed is to be in a commanding position. This means that you should be able to see the door from your bed without being directly in line with it.
Also avoid having your bed under the window if possible!
2. Get a Solid Headboard
It’s very important to get a solid headboard since the headboard represents relationships in your life.
Choose one that will literally and figuratively give support with soft edges if possible!
3. Declutter Your Space
Decluttering your room, especially under the bed will allow for a better flow of the space.
If you have too many things then the flow will get blocked!
4. Limit Screens and Electronics
When possible, remove all electronic devices such as TVs, phones, laptops, computers, etc. from your bedroom since they have huge magnetic fields and they affect your sleep and immune system!
5. Only Soft Shapes and Materials
Soft shapes and cozy materials promote tranquility and peace. If you incorporate anything too harsh it will mess with the soothing surroundings in your room!
6. Move Out the Books
This might be a tough one for bookworms, but books contain active energy and they are amazing when it comes to collecting dust!
I suggest moving out your bookshelf either in your study or living room and only keep the book you’re currently reading in your bedroom.
7. Choose Muted Neutral Colors
Muted neutral colors are best when creating a tranquil space. Opt for creams, greens and browns. Avoid an all-white bedroom ’cause it puts the space out of balance!
If you’re not a fan of muted colors, then try incorporating the colors you do like! It’s important that you love your space.
8. Get a Bigger Bed
If possible, invest in a bigger bed and mattress since it ensures we have enough space while sleeping and relaxing!
9. Too Many Plants is a No-No
This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t add any plants. Plants bring in vibrant energy which is good for your space if done moderately!
Don’t do too much!
10. Candles and Low-Lights
Candles and low lighting are additions to muted colors. It will create a cozy ambiance that’s very important for a good night’s sleep.
11. Keep Your Closet Closed
In order to have good Feng Shui in your bedroom you need to make sure there are no distractions.
Closing your drawers and closet when trying to sleep will ensure that your eyes don’t wander!
12. No Mirrors in Line With Your Bed
Mirrors are amazing when it comes to making the room seem bigger, but if it’s directly facing the bed it will disturb your sleep!
The placement of mirrors is very important and probably the best way is to place it somewhere where it doesn’t directly reflect the bed or cluttered spaces!
13. Make It Symmetrical
By using symmetry you’ll create a calming space which is what we’re striving for!
This doesn’t mean that everything should be matchy matchy, but similar!
14. Choose Art Carefully
Depending on what you want to attract, your artwork should reflect that. If you’re looking for romance, evacuate the pictures of your family members and single people!
However, if you’re looking for happiness then hang up anything that holds sentimental value to you.
15. Get Bedside Tables
Balance is extremely important when it comes to Feng Shui, so having two bedside tables will ensure balance and symmetry!
They don’t have to look exactly alike, like in the pictures! You can always mix and match.
