The city of Naucalpan de Juárez, commonly called simply Naucalpan, in Mexico, hides a dream-like vacation destination.
Heavily inspired by the Aztec culture and a product of incredibly bold vision, the Quetzalcoatl´s Nest is a private housing complex designed to look like the Mesoamerican snake god – Quetzalcoatl.
The Great Snake God
Almost any culture in the world has its own snake deity, which more often than not represents wisdom and rebirth.
Likewise, Quetzalcoatl’s name comes from the Nahuatl language and means “Precious snake”, though it’s also interpreted as an allegory for a wise man.
It’s one of the more important gods from the Aztec pantheon and was most prominently worshiped among their priests.
What Awaits You at the Quetzalcoatl´s Nest?
The condo is dubbed to be a mental and physical refuge, and seeing the unbelievable pictures seems more than appropriate.
The Quetzalcoatl´s Nest is a proper oasis in the middle of a busy city, where the guests are surrounded by the natural ecosystem.
The architect Javier Senosiain said himself that he wished to design a more humane space, which places the ultimate focus on our connection to nature.
The Head-Spinning Exterior
Parts of the condo remind of an amusement park, while others recall the image of Hobbiton to the mind.
The main building itself looks like an enormous tentacle from the right angle, and the dozens of small windows promote that look even more.
Incredible Architecture
The shape of the condo itself isn’t all to marvel at when it comes to the architecture of the Quetzalcoatl´s Nest.
As we get a closer look, we can see how carefully the mosaic was used to create the effect of snake scales upon various surfaces.
At the same time, it’s designed to appear alien and futuristic, but also ancient.
Visiting the Park
The hosts run a neighbor project called Parque Quetzalcoatl, and a visit to the park is included in the Airbnb experience. It is required to book it ahead of time.
It’s still being worked on but is open to visits from 8 am to 4 pm.
In the Belly of the Beast
Honestly, what kind of wild interior do you expect from a condo like this?
Well, you’d be surprised.
The interior was purposely designed to be minimalistic and breezy. It creates an amazing contrast to the view the many round windows give you.
It’s a space in which you may decompress and relax, and when you wish to be surrounded by fun architecture and plenty of greenery, you may always come outside.
The Bedrooms
The interior contains 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, and even a laundry room.
And, I’m sure you were wondering, there is both a balcony and a patio.
There are various types of bedrooms to choose from, some containing bunk beds, some a queen bed, and some a single bed.
All in all, there’s plenty of room for a comfortable stay for large families or friend groups.
The Bathrooms
Bathrooms are just as simple as the rest of the indoor space, though it’s not without its creative flare.
The tile mosaic is used to mimic scales even in the minimalist interior.
The Kitchen
There is only one kitchen, though it is reasonably spacious and equipped with everything you may need for a comfortable stay.
You’re expected to bring and make your own food, though the hosts will kindly provide you with complimentary coffee and tea, and also with bread and fruit.
