Most Marvel fans are familiar with the predecessor of their favorite cinematic universe – the iconic X-Men movies and TV series.
The media which followed some of us growing up in the 90s and 2000s is a source of bitter-sweet nostalgia we can’t seem to get enough of.
Would you like to see that nostalgia realized? Check out the X-Mansion Airbnb page!
The Mutant Institute
In New Castle, New York resides Professor Charles Xavier’s Institute for Higher Learning.
The mansion is an exact replica of the Institute from the X-Men show to a tee – down to the dimension!
The included pictures are not screenshots of the animation – they in fact show the actual, real-life mansion.
As per the host’s words, it’s a radical 2D space.
The whole Airbnb home feels like walking into a cartoon, which is probably the greatest nostalgia boost ever.
A Roll Call
The whole X-Mansion event was approached in a creative and fun way. It’s realized in the form of a roll call for mutants who wish to train at the mansion.
The booking was open until May 13th and for a mere 97$ per night. Anyone was welcome to apply, though it was up to Airbnb to choose the lucky participants.
The lucky few got to stay in the replica of the original X-Men’s rooms, and even get a diploma at the end of their stay!
What’s It Like?
Aside from the unique decor and objects, all of which are designed to appear 2D and X-Men-Themed, the X-Mansion looks like quite a comfortable place.
There are four bedrooms altogether – three with queen-sized beds and one with twin beds.
There’s a study, an office, the Danger and the War room.
Not to mention, there is a lovely garden.
The Entryway
It likely takes a moment to get accustomed to the 2D space before you’re able to truly appreciate the amount of detail that went into the whole design.
The carpet, the flowers, the entryway table, and even the stairs look disorienting and cartoonish. It’s like walking into a childhood memory.
Jubilee’s Bedroom
The cute and girlish room belongs to the Airbnb host – yes, Jubilee is the host.
Her bedroom is the exact replica of the cartoon, down to the posters on the wall! Aside from that, it’s designed all in fun colors and shapes.
How nostalgic is the chunky computer?!
When mutant training gets too much, the guest may relax by watching the retro TV or playing a retro video game.
And if you happen to be as energetic as Jubilee, you could always grab the rollerblades and go outside.
Wolverine’s Bedroom
Wolverine’s bedroom is also the exact replica of the room we remember from our small screens.
Details like his shirt, the mask, the night table photo, and even the scratches on the door give the room its authenticity.
Surely, Wolverine’s room doesn’t lack its own retro device. By the bed, there’s an old-school alarm clock to give the guest that nostalgia hit first thing in the morning.
Beast’s Bedroom & Lab
From the authentic design, retro computers, and the old-school sci-fi-inspired test tubes, Beast’s room also has it all.
The Danger Room
The Danger Room is the whole point of the Institute, being the place in which mutants are exposed to various dangerous training but also free to be themselves.
The entire room is also designed to appear 2D and completely authentic to the 90s show.
Mutant’s Changeroom
Is this the best part? I’d say so.
The changeroom completes the experience by allowing the guests to become famous mutants. It contains all sorts of garments and gadgets that the late 90s – early 2000s Sci-Fi cartoons were known for.
The War Room
Perhaps the most impressively designed part of the real-life X-Mansion, the War room is designed for the X-Men meetings.
Jubilee promises the guests to learn about their own mutant powers during a briefing here.
The Study
The study is where the guests get to encounter the foe. Magneto’s helmet rests on the desk as a reminder of Professor Xavier’s will.
Perhaps Magneto is the reason that the visit to the X-Mansion was a one-time event?!
